A New Nursing School Just Opened
A lot of people look at nursing as a noble profession. And many are in awe of how nurses perform their duties and responsibilities with dignity and honor. Today, a new nursing school just opened to provide education and training to students aspiring to become great nurses in the future.
Las Vegas welcomes a new medical school, the Chamberlain College of Nursing. The college invites students desiring to become nurses as it opens its first campus situated in Nevada. Faculty and staff are excited to meet young people yearning to become professional nurses someday. They are hosting an open house to look for prospective students and entertain those who are interested of getting a degree in nursing.
The new nursing college is accepting applications for the spring semester wherein 30 slots are available for students taking the course. The school will admit and accept 30 more students every enrolment or admissions period. Per year, the school offers three admissions periods which give higher chances for students to enroll and take up the course.
A degree in Bachelor of Science in nursing is being offered by Chamberlain that grants students the opportunity to become professional medical practitioners. The school also provides a number of online graduate courses and programs.
While taking the course, the nursing students are given the privilege and opportunity to practice and hone their medical skills at local hospitals. They are given a set of duty hours to perform nursing tasks with the supervision of a senior nurse or a clinical instructor. There, they will be able to practice and demonstrate what they have learned from the lectures and the books.
But before the students can go on actual duty at local hospitals, they are introduced and exposed to a “simcare center” provided by the school. The center is an area where students are taught the basic medical procedures, the roles and responsibilities of a nurse and other medical practices. Because the center looks like a medical institution, students will experience being a real nurse, handling a dummy patient and responding to real-life situations on those dummies.
In the center, they have hands-on experiences on how to do cardio-pulmonary resuscitation or CPR, take and read vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature and heart rate, and assist physicians doing clinical procedures like stitching a wound or inserting an endotracheal tube.
The Chamberlain nursing school is opened in Las Vegas due to a high demand of nurses in the place. Because of insufficient number of healthcare workers in Nevada, the school encourages students to take up the course to increase the number of medical practitioners and healthcare personnel. With the medical school’s opening in the state, there is a greater chance of adding more nurses in the workforce.
