Career Options That Weren't Around 10 Years Ago
The last 10 years has seen a whole new era as far as the jobs market is concerned with many old-style roles disappearing to be replaced by more technology-focused ones. Here are some career options you might not have thought of.
Social Media Manager
With billions of Facebook accounts around the world and millions of Tweets being tweeted every single day, every company and brand is looking for a piece of the social media action. Naturally, with so much activity going on, companies need an expert to manage their accounts. Social media management jobs are on the increase as more and more businesses realise the importance of their social presence on the net.
The events industry in the UK is estimated to be worth over £40 billion and growing rapidly. Event management companies specialise in organising and facilitating anything from weddings to corporate events and even major national events. Much goes into organising even a relatively small family celebration and if you have a talent for creativity and planning, this could be the career for you.
This has to be one of the most desirable jobs out there today. It’s a relatively new occupation that demands engaging writing ability, specialist knowledge within a chosen niche area and a fair amount of social influence. A blog is a combination of online diary and website. These days there are plenty of jobs advertised for professional bloggers and freelancers; fresh, interesting copy is where it’s at as far as websites are concerned and demand is growing rapidly.
There are approaching one million apps in the iTunes store alone so it’s not surprising that apps and games are big business. We live in an increasingly mobile orientated society and the saying that, “There’s an app for that!” rings increasingly true.
Zumba is the modern day equivalent of 80s aerobics classes but without the legwarmers! Pretty much everyone loves dancing, whether they’re any good at it or not although not everyone enjoys going to the gym. Invented in the 90s by choreographer Alberto Perez, Zumba merges both dance and aerobics and is now so popular that the demand for instructors is on the increase all over the world.
On-line Advertising Manager
The internet has rapidly become the most popular advertising medium out there and companies now recruit experts to manage their campaigns. Online advertising managers design ads, spot trends and create campaigns designed to promote their company to its clients and prospects in the best possible light.
This is essentially an evolution of the traditional business analyst role. A data scientist must have strong business acumen and be able to spot and predict trends from analysis of available data from multiple sources.
So you can see that there’s plenty of opportunity out there to follow a career path that perhaps veers away from the traditional. If you’re nearing the end of your degree course and are unsure which direction to pursue or maybe you’re seeking inspiration for a career change, perhaps these ideas will be of help to you.
