What Every Child Needs

Healthy relationships are the source of happiness and emotional stability for many people. The family is one of the fundamental relationships that every person needs in their life; being part of a family is a human need. Having a family and putting it at the center of your concerns and priorities is a must in a world full of challenges and uncertainty.

Parents should care and love their children and provide them with all that they might need. When you love your children, you nurture their self-esteem and their feelings of security. You can build a loving family by doing simple things that your children can learn from, like preparing dinner together, going for walks, reading to your kids, spending time together and so on. Simple things can make the difference and be the key to harmony and happiness at home. Constant attention and care is part of love and it keeps it alive and growing.

However, parents sometimes fail to express or show love to their children. In order to develop love within the family, you should learn how to listen to your children. To be listened to is very important and it is a sign of love. Try to devote some time to your children, listening to them and encouraging them to think and express themselves freely. This act will develop love, trust and unity between your children and you.

Being useful and needed is also one of the basic things that your children can learn from you. You can help your children fulfill this need by engaging them in some activities that will make them feel useful either for themselves or for others. You should also show them that you appreciate their help. By feeling useful, your children will develop their self-esteem, sense of autonomy and achievement.

Communication is also important within the family. Communication is not only about what we say but also about how we say things. Ask your children about their interests and express your opinion without ignoring theirs. When communicating with your children, take into consideration their feelings, because the aim is not arguing or showing that you are right or you know better, but to encourage them to talk and share what is bothering them. Communication is the key to building up strong connections between parents and children.
